TOPDOG ROOFING • BIDDEFORD, MAINE
Roofing Contractor in Biddeford, Maine.
Roof repair, replacement and inspections for Biddeford homeowners who want a straightforward answer about what their roof actually needs.
From homes closer to the city to exposed properties around Biddeford Pool and Fortunes Rocks, every roof gets evaluated individually — repair it when a repair makes sense, replace it when it doesn't.
ROOFING IN BIDDEFORD
One city.
Very different roofs.
A roof near Biddeford Pool can face a very different environment than a roof several miles inland.
Biddeford includes older residential neighborhoods, newer homes and exposed coastal properties around Biddeford Pool, Fortunes Rocks and the surrounding shoreline.
That matters when you're evaluating shingles, flashing, skylights, chimneys, ventilation and the small roof penetrations where leaks often begin.
Coastal exposure can be especially hard on flashing and other roofing components. Older homes can also uncover previous repairs, aging decking or ventilation conditions that simply aren't obvious from the driveway.
TopDog Roofing doesn't start every conversation with a replacement. We look at what's actually happening, explain what we see and help you decide what makes sense for the roof in front of us.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Details matter on a Maine roof.
A roof can look perfectly fine from the driveway while a small failure around flashing, a penetration or the roof edge is already allowing water in.
Wind & weather exposure
Shingle edges, ridge caps, flashing and previous repairs can become vulnerable after years of storms and Maine weather.
Skylights & penetrations
Skylights, plumbing vents and other penetrations deserve close attention because small flashing failures can become significant interior leaks.
Older roof assemblies
Older homes may reveal previous roofing layers, repairs, decking conditions or ventilation details once the roof is properly inspected.
Ice & water management
Roof edges, valleys and problem areas need to be detailed for the freeze-thaw cycles and winter conditions we deal with in Southern Maine.
REPAIR OR REPLACE?
You shouldn't need to know before you call.
That's our job to help figure out.
If the problem is isolated, we'll start there.
A leak doesn't automatically mean you need a new roof. When the surrounding roofing still has usable life, a targeted repair may be the more sensible answer.
- Active roof leaks
- Pipe boot failures
- Missing or damaged shingles
- Flashing problems
- Nail pops & exposed fasteners
- Storm-related damage
If the roof is failing as a system, we'll explain why.
Replacement becomes the better investment when problems are widespread, the roof is near the end of its usable life or repeated repairs are simply buying a little more time.
- Full tear-off when required
- Roof deck inspection
- Ice & water protection
- Flashing & roof accessories
- Asphalt shingle options
- Standing seam metal options
REAL BIDDEFORD POOL PROJECT
Coastal exposure had taken its toll on this skylight.
This home sits on Ocean Spray Avenue in Biddeford Pool, just off Fortunes Rocks Road and directly exposed to the coastal environment.
The existing unit was an older venting Velux skylight. Over time, the flashing had deteriorated, the glass had become so clouded that visibility was minimal, and the seals were beginning to fail.

Velux unit
& failing seals
with blind
WHAT WE DID
- Removed the shingles surrounding the existing skylight
- Removed the deteriorated flashing system
- Removed the older venting Velux skylight
- Installed a new fixed skylight with a blind
- Reintegrated the skylight into the surrounding roofing system
Properties this close to the ocean experience conditions that can accelerate deterioration of exposed roofing components. The shingles themselves aren't always the first thing to fail. Skylights, flashing, fasteners and other roof penetrations deserve just as much attention.
WHAT'S UNDER THE SHINGLES MATTERS
The finished roof is only part of the job.
Tear-off gives us the opportunity to see the roof deck and address problems that were hidden beneath the old roofing.

BIDDEFORD PROJECT PLANNING
What about permits?
Permit and approval requirements can depend on the scope of work and the property. The City of Biddeford Code Enforcement Office handles building-permit questions.
Certain properties may also have additional requirements. If there is any question about your specific roof or project scope, the requirements should be confirmed with the City before work begins.
Visit Biddeford Code Enforcement →Do I need a new roof if mine is leaking?
Not necessarily. A leak can come from an isolated failure such as flashing, a pipe boot, damaged shingles, a skylight or another penetration. If the surrounding roof still has usable life, repair may be the better option.
Does TopDog Roofing do small roof repairs in Biddeford?
Yes. Roof leaks, damaged shingles, pipe boots, flashing issues, nail pops, skylight problems and other targeted repairs are part of our roofing work.
Do you work in Biddeford Pool?
Yes. TopDog Roofing serves Biddeford and Biddeford Pool along with surrounding Southern Maine communities.
Do you replace skylights?
Yes. When a skylight or its flashing system is failing, the surrounding roofing can be removed so the old unit and flashing can be replaced and properly integrated back into the roof.
How do coastal conditions affect a roof?
More exposed properties can experience increased wind, moisture and weather exposure. That makes proper detailing at shingles, edges, flashing, skylights and other penetrations especially important.
How much does a roof replacement cost in Biddeford?
Pricing depends on roof size, pitch, complexity, existing layers, decking conditions, skylights, chimneys and roofing material. TopDog's online estimator can provide a preliminary planning range before an inspection.
