WINTER ROOF PROTECTION

Snow on the roof isn't automatically a problem. Too much of it can be.

Maine roofs are built for winter, but snow conditions can change quickly.

Deep accumulation, drifting, wet heavy snow and repeated freeze-thaw cycles can increase roof load and contribute to ice-dam conditions, especially around eaves, valleys, dormers and other roof transitions.

TopDog provides roof-specific snow removal rather than treating your roof like a driveway. The goal is to safely reduce accumulation while remaining conscious of shingles, flashing, vents, skylights and other roofing components hidden beneath the snow.

WHEN TO CALL

Don't wait for the roof to tell you the hard way.

Every roof and storm is different, but these are common reasons homeowners and property managers call for winter roof service.

Heavy Snow Buildup

Significant accumulation or drifting that has built up over multiple storms.

Ice Dams

Ice forming along eaves or around roof transitions with snow continuing to feed the buildup.

Winter Leaks

Water appearing around ceilings, dormers, exterior walls, skylights or roof penetrations.

Uneven Drifting

Large concentrated areas of snow created by wind, roof shape or nearby structures.

Flat-Roof Accumulation

Commercial roofs where snow cannot shed naturally and continues to accumulate.

!

You're Just Not Sure

If the amount of snow on the roof has you concerned, we can help determine the sensible next step.

ROOF-SPECIFIC APPROACH

The goal isn't to scrape your roof completely bare.

It's to reduce snow load and problem accumulation while treating the roofing system underneath with care.

01
Roof rake when possible

Where roof geometry and conditions allow, snow can often be reduced from the ground or lower roof edge without unnecessary roof traffic.

02
Ladder access when needed

Some roofs require closer access to reach accumulated snow, valleys, dormers or problem areas.

03
Physical roof shoveling

When conditions require direct roof access and it can be performed safely, snow may be removed manually from the roof.

04
Roofing components stay in mind

Skylights, ridge vents, plumbing vents, flashing, shingles and other components can be hidden beneath winter accumulation.

ICE DAM MITIGATION Reduce the snow feeding the problem.

ICE DAM MITIGATION

We can help mitigate ice-dam conditions — without pretending every dam can simply be shoveled away.

When accumulated snow is contributing to ice damming, TopDog can remove snow around affected areas and reduce the amount of meltwater continuing to feed the buildup.

This can be especially useful around eaves, dormers, valleys and roof transitions where water backup is occurring.

Important:

TopDog's winter service is an ice-dam mitigation service. We do not provide full steam ice-dam removal and cannot guarantee complete elimination of existing ice buildup.

RESIDENTIAL + COMMERCIAL

Different roofs. Same goal: safely reduce the accumulation.

RESIDENTIAL

Homes, garages and residential structures

Snow removal for pitched residential roofing using the least invasive practical approach based on access and conditions.

  • Asphalt shingle roofs
  • Standing seam roofs
  • Garages
  • Dormers
  • Valleys
  • Skylight areas
STARTING AT $350 Final price depends on roof size, snow depth, height, pitch, accessibility and ice conditions.
COMMERCIAL FLAT ROOFS

Snow-load reduction for commercial flat roofs

Flat roofs can hold large amounts of accumulation because snow cannot shed naturally. Commercial jobs are evaluated based on roof area, access, accumulation and safe snow-disposal locations.

  • Flat roofs
  • Low-slope roofs
  • Rooftop-unit areas
  • Drain areas
  • Drifted sections
  • Large accumulation
STARTING AT $650 Commercial work is site-specific and quoted based on conditions and required labor.

WINTER SERVICE PRICING

Why one roof can cost more than another.

Snow removal isn't priced only by square footage. Winter conditions determine how much labor, access and time a job actually requires.

Roof size More roof area means more snow to move.
Snow depth & weight Wet packed snow can take considerably longer than light powder.
Height & pitch Steeper and higher roofs require more involved access.
Accessibility Landscaping, additions, decks and tight areas can affect setup.
Ice buildup Ice-dam conditions may require additional time and targeted work.
Emergency response After-hours or urgent storm response may carry an additional charge.

WHY A ROOFING COMPANY?

Because there's a roof underneath all that snow.

01
We understand roof components

Snow can hide skylights, vents, flashing, valleys and other components that can be damaged by careless removal.

02
We can spot roofing problems

If winter conditions reveal damaged shingles, failed flashing or another roofing concern, we'll tell you what we're seeing.

03
We're not trying to scrape shingles bare

The goal is to reduce snow accumulation without unnecessarily damaging the roofing system underneath.

04
Winter problem → spring solution

If snow or ice exposes a larger roof issue, TopDog can also help with repair or replacement when conditions improve.

WINTER ROOF FAQ

Before you climb up there yourself...

Have a roof-snow question?

Call / Text TopDog →
How much does residential roof snow removal cost?

Residential roof snow removal starts at $350. Final pricing depends on roof size, snow depth, roof height, pitch, accessibility, ice buildup and whether direct roof access is required.

Do you remove snow from commercial flat roofs?

Yes. TopDog provides commercial flat-roof and low-slope snow removal. Commercial jobs start at $650 and are quoted individually based on roof area, accumulation, access and snow-disposal conditions.

Do you remove ice dams?

TopDog provides ice-dam mitigation by removing snow and reducing buildup around affected areas where conditions allow. We do not offer full steam ice-dam removal and cannot guarantee complete elimination of existing ice.

Will you get onto the roof?

When possible, we prefer lower-impact access such as roof rakes and ladders. Some conditions may require direct roof access and manual shoveling. Roof access is performed only when conditions allow the work to be completed safely.

Do you remove every inch of snow?

Not necessarily. The goal is to safely reduce accumulation and problem areas without unnecessarily scraping or damaging roofing materials underneath the snow.

Do you offer emergency roof snow removal?

Yes. Emergency calls are accepted during winter storms when travel, weather and roof conditions allow safe access. Emergency or after-hours response may carry an additional charge.

Can snow and ice cause roof leaks?

They can contribute to them. Ice dams can allow meltwater to back up beneath roofing materials, while existing flashing, shingle or penetration problems may also become more noticeable during winter weather.

What happens if you find a roof problem while removing snow?

We'll let you know what we're seeing. TopDog also provides roof repair and replacement, so if the issue requires roofing work after the immediate winter problem is handled, we can discuss the appropriate next step.
